The Manzanares River originates in the Sierra de Guadarrama mountain range to the north of Madrid and goes through Madrid before hooking up with the Jarama River further down south. To go running down by the Manzanares River used to be impossible a few years ago because it was a rundown area surrounded by heavy traffic and to top it off, was highly polluted. No longer! The cars are practically gone and it is now completely pedestrian friendly and a great place to run and see what proper urban planning has done to improve Madrid!
